Last night I watched The Secret Life of the Brain: Episode 5 The Aging Brain. It was quite inspirational. Until recently many scientists believed that once part of the brain was damaged, e.g., neurons being killed though a stroke, the functions those nuerons had could not be taken over by other neurons. But recently, there has benn progress in this. A man with a paralyzed left hand learned how to use it again after years of not using it – by wearing a type of glove on his right hand that left it immobile, thereby forcing him to use the left. It was hard work, but he made good progress. There is also hope for curing Alzheimer’s Disease.
